Nesting No More: Watching My Baby Blossom at 4 Months

August 13th, 2025

The postpartum months have been a whirlwind of sleepless nights, cozy snuggles, and learning to navigate life as a mom of a little one. Four months ago, Anastasia came into this world and into our room — her tiny bassinet tucked right beside my bed, close enough that I could hear every breath and respond to every cry within seconds.

Those early weeks were about survival and bonding. My body was healing, my emotions were adjusting, and our family was finding a new rhythm. Keeping her close wasn’t just about convenience — it was about comfort, connection, and my peace of mind.

But now, at four months, we’ve reached a new chapter: Anastasia is moving into her own room.

Why Now?

Every baby — and every mama — reaches this milestone in their own time. For us, it felt right because:

  • She’s becoming more aware of her surroundings.

  • She’s taking longer stretches of sleep.

  • Her room is ready and filled with things she loves.

The first nap in her crib lasted 30 minutes — not perfect, but a start. The rest of the day, she was back in her queen-size bed in our room (yes, she has been spoiled!). I’m taking it slow because slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

Postpartum Emotions in This Transition

If I’m honest, part of me wants to keep her close forever. The postpartum bond is unlike anything else, and letting go — even in small steps — can feel like a loss. But it’s also a gain.

It’s watching her explore independence. It’s reclaiming a bit of my own space at night. It’s trusting that the love and security we’ve built will carry her through the night, even a few steps away.

This week also marked another milestone for me personally — I had my first therapy session with a Postpartum Support trained therapist. It was a safe space to process my emotions, reflect on this season of change, and be reminded that caring for my own mental health is just as important as caring for my baby’s needs.

A Room Filled with Love and Faith

Her nursery isn’t just a space for sleep — it’s a reflection of our love for her, our faith, and our family’s story. Every corner has been touched with intention:

  • A graphic wall with her name in beautiful lettering, accented with soft flowers.

  • Faith-filled décor, like her “In the morning, give me Jesus” sign and her Proverbs 31:25 verse displayed above her closet.

  • Horse-themed touches that speak to our ranch dreams — framed photos of horses, a little rocking horse, and a precious Beanie Baby that belonged to her Grandma Lisa.

It’s a space where her spirit can grow surrounded by beauty, scripture, and family history. She already lights up when she looks around, kicking her legs in excitement as if she knows this is her place.

A Special Moment This Week

Today, we had the joy of meeting with her physical and speech therapists for her developmental evaluation. She scored high and right at average in every area except for motor skills, where there’s a slight delay.

Instead of worrying, we’re embracing this as an opportunity. We’ll be working closely with her therapy team to help her catch up — giving her every tool she needs to thrive, grow strong, and become the confident leader God is calling her to be.

During the session, they even sang her a sweet little song to help her stretch her arms. I sat there listening, my heart swelling as her room filled with joy, encouragement, and love. It almost brought me to tears — knowing she is surrounded not only by family, but by a team who believes in her potential as much as we do.

Encouragement for Other Mamas

To any mama reading this: there’s no “right” age to move your baby into their own room. Follow your instincts. This season of postpartum is about grace — for yourself and your baby.

For us, four months feels like a step toward growth — hers and mine. And I know this is just the beginning of many milestones we’ll celebrate together.
