There are moments in life when choosing yourself feels like the hardest thing to do. Sometimes it means stepping away from a workplace, a system, or even a routine that others think you should accept. For me, I’ve learned that prioritizing my mental health is not selfish—it is faithful. It is acknowledging that God created me with purpose, dignity, and strength, and He calls me to walk in that truth.
Choosing Trust Over Fear
Walking away from toxic environments isn’t easy. Especially in a small town with limited opportunities, I’ve often wrestled with whether to settle or to step into the unknown. Choosing to protect my wellbeing sometimes means putting myself in stressful situations—uncertainty about finances, change in routine, or even questioning what comes next. But God is good. He has reminded me over and over that faith is what carries us forward, not fear.
When Workplaces Harm, God Heals
I’ve been in workplaces where gossip, lack of respect, or broken systems created more harm than good. Environments like that can chip away at your confidence and joy, making you doubt your worth. It’s not easy to admit when something isn’t working, but part of healing is acknowledging the truth: some systems are broken. And when they are, we cannot fix them by sacrificing ourselves to hold them together.
Moving Forward in Faith
God doesn’t ask us to stay in unhealthy situations to prove our endurance. He asks us to trust Him. To lean on His promises. To take steps of faith even when the road is unclear. For me, moving forward has looked like holding onto His Word, reminding myself that He provides, and trusting that choosing health and peace will open new doors aligned with His plan.
A Word to Anyone Struggling
If you’re in a similar place—feeling stuck, unseen, or drained by your workplace—I want you to know you’re not alone. It takes courage to say, “I deserve better.” It takes faith to walk away and trust God with the details. And it takes hope to believe that healing and purpose are still ahead.
Choosing yourself and your mental wellbeing isn’t weakness. It’s strength. It’s faith in action. And it’s a declaration that God’s plan for you is greater than any broken system that tries to hold you back.
